Fuel & Oils

Employing industry experts, our vast knowledge and ability to work in challenging environments has seen us called into some of nature's harshest environments, including Antarctica, where our fuel and oils team were required to decommission the bulk fuel storage facilities at Scott Base. From oil dispensing installations and service station redevelopments to tank cleaning and contamination management, our experts can oversee all jobs, manage sub-contractors, deal with consent applications, and work to tight demanding deadlines.

Our capability includes:

  • Underground tank extraction and destruction
  • Service station redevelopments (from retanking to raze and rebuild)
  • Compliance/containment management
  • Electrical (hazardous industries)
  • Oil dispensing installations
  • Project management
  • Tank cleaning
  • Turnkey solutions
  • Filtration and fuel quality management
  • Storm water interceptors
  • Heavy civil construction (sheet piling, dewatering and drainage)

Some of our previous projects include:

caltex kaiapoi

Caltex Kaiapoi – New Service Station

This project involved the decommissioning of the old service station and the complete rebuild of a new modern service station. This was achieved over an eleven week time frame and comprised a 200sqm convenience store, seven refuelling lanes, canopy and 100,000 litres of fuel storage.

The project which was in excess of $1m involved obtaining consents, managing sub-contractors, construction work plus ensuring that the corporate requirements of Chevron and Foodstuffs were met.

antarctica

Antarctica New Zealand – Latitudinal Gradient Project

In 2005 we decommissioned and removed the bulk fuel storage facilities 650 km north of Scott Base. This included a 400,000 litre diesel tank and eleven 3,000 litre waste oil sludge tanks. The work required gas testing, cleaning, removing contamination and plasma cutting of tanks with all waste, sludge, and metal bolts etc. all being taken from site and disposed of safely in New Zealand.

It was crucial that the project had no impact on wildlife and be undertaken on a short four week programme to work in with flight access from New Zealand. In addition to the location the environment provided a challenge with temperatures down to -15°C and up to class 1 white out conditions. The team lived in a tented camp and worked constantly around 90,000 Adelie penguins and associated wildlife.

In addition we dismantled a D4 bulldozer which was shipped to Canterbury Museum in Christchurch and reassembled and is now part of the Antarctica Exhibition.

caltex seaview

Chevron New Zealand - Caltex Seaview Diesel Stop

Chevron New Zealand's expansion planes required the upgrading of their existing Seaview Diesel Stop to a new site.

We successfully tendered and project managed the relocation and upgrading of this key site to incorporate it into the Seaview terminal complex.

This project initially involved exposing and undertaking some remedial work on the underground terminal pipelines then into the heavy civil aspects including the installation of two 30,000 litre underground tanks and 1300 sqm of forecourt. We managed the sub-contractors and the project was delivered on time and within budget.

airBP

Air BP - Greymouth Airfield

Air BP is a nationwide supplier of aviation fuel and lubricants to the commercial, military and private sectors.

As accredited BP contractors, with site safe passports, we successfully tendered for this project. The contract required the removal of the existing fill and suction equipment from the tank and the installation of new kerbside pumps, hose reels and islands at the hangers of two commercial helicopter operators. We also installed/managed the installation of petroleum services, associated electrical controls, circuits and new main and Telecom services.

engineCenter

Christchurch Engine Centre - Jet A1 Tank Installation

The Christchurch Engine Centre (CHCEC) is a joint venture between Air New Zealand Ltd and Pratt & Whitney providing engine overhaul and repair services.

Our association with CHCEC commenced in 2007 when we supplied and installed a 50,000 litre JetA1 above ground tank installation and associated pipework to their  test cell system. Subsequent to this we have been involved in a number of projects including relocating the waste oil facility, tank cleaning, testing and inspection work.

stocktonAlliance

Stockton Alliance – On-going Service Contract

For over 15 years we have also been the preferred servicing contractor to the Alliance at the Stockton open cast mine on the West Coast of the South Island. We undertake all the servicing and maintenance for their mobile refuelling vehicles and the oil and lube facilities at their workshops.

                             – Mobile Refuelling Facilities

This project involved the full installation of two 100,000 litre double skin tanks onto skids. Also the fit out of all the pumping, dispensing and fuel management equipment. The two facilities were commissioned and tested over a number of weeks to ensure they performed to expectations before commissioning on site at the Stockton mine. The Alliance continued with the Banlaw brand of refuelling nozzles and receivers of which we are the sole NZ agents.

Chevron New Zealand - Parkhouse Diesel Stop

This is a large and important diesel stop for Chevron’s commercial customers, and following some movement in the tanks following the February 2011 earthquakes it was decided to replace them.

Firstly we demolished the large canopy, then removed and arranged for destruction of the old underground tanks and separator and undertook site remediation.  We then installed a 50,000 and 40,000 litre double skin fibreglass tanks and associated pipework and electrics, plus installation of two Pay at Pump machines. A new forecourt of 1400 sqm was laid and the pylon sign relocated.

Chevron New Zealand - Caltex Riverlands Diesel Stop

Completed in 2009 this four lane diesel stop is part of the largest truck stop complex in NZ  which incorporates the diesel stop, weigh bridge, truck wash, accommodation, diner and parking for over 50 truck & trailer units.

As the diesel stop was the first facility constructed it involved close liaison with contractors developing the site and constructing the other nearby facilities. The project was a complete turnkey solution and involved installing two 70,000 litre underground tanks, associated pipework, electrical etc. The challenges in this project were presented by the winter construction period and the high water level of the area.

Elf Lubricants NZ – Komatsu Workshop Oil Installation

This facility required the manufacture of the bulk tank frame, drip tray and nozzle holders along with the installation of the pipe work, reels and nozzles. We also installed an 1800 litre waste oil tank.
